At the initiative of 49-year-old German producer Regina Ziegler, a dozen (by 2003 the number had grown to thirty) internationally renowned directors (including Ken Russell, Susan Seidelman, Melvin Van Peebles, Jos Stelling and others) to make an erotic short film, each lasting about half an hour. They were given complete artistic freedom and were allowed to let their imaginations run wild within the budget given to them. It turned out to be an interesting palette of short films that can be shown separately or in clusters of three or more. Although German broadcaster WDR was co-producer, the films were shot with the option of showing them in the cinema as well. They premiered at festivals and Regine Ziegler was now taken seriously as a producer in America. The diverse themes - as different as the number of people and nationalities - provide a panorama of what is possible with erotic subjects, without treading the paths of pornography. The films, which have a certain level and are sometimes sophisticated, prove that eroticism and poetry can go hand in hand.
